Colostrum Catchys

First Milk Collect and Keep Kit

Collect, store and feed your baby colostrum all in the same tool.

WHEN YOU'LL NEED IT

Antenatal expressing or "colostrum collection" is not recommended before 36 weeks of pregnancy and should not be done by anyone at risk of premature labour. Check with your maternal healthcare provider before attempting.

HOW TO USE IT

Collect: When expressing, gently squeeze the collector body, place the nib to the colostrum drop and release to suck it into the collector. Alternatively, express into the collection cup and suck it into the collector from there.

Store: Label the collector with the dating stickers and place upright in the fridge or freezer.

Feed: When it’s time to feed your baby, place the collector in the corner of their mouth and squeeze the body to push the colostrum into their mouth.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT

Offering multiple ways to collect: via the vacuum effect of the soft collector nibs straight from your nipples or from the collection cup, this makes colostrum collecting as easy as it can be. It has clear measurements and labelling tools so it will be clear whose colostrum it is when stored in the birthing suite freezer.

FAQ

Why do I need to express colostrum?

Expressing colostrum from about 36-37 weeks pregnant (if advised by your health professional) is recommended to help you build a supply of nutrient-dense ‘first milk’.

How do I express colostrum?

Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water and getting comfy. It can also help to warm your breasts with a compress.

Then gently stroke and massage your breast in circular motions from the chest wall toward the nipple. Next, make a "C" shape with your thumb and index finger around the outside of your areola and gently push your thumb and fingers straight back against your chest wall. Compress the breast tissue together between your thumb and fingers, then release the pressure.

If this works, you will see drops of golden colostrum, which you can collect into the Colostrum Catchys cup provided. Repeat around the edge of the nipple to drain other milk ducts.

Each breast may require a few minutes.

What are all the different pieces in the kit for? Will I use them all?

Each kit of Colostrum Catchys include 1 x mini collection cup, 4 x 5mL collector, 2 x dating sticker sheets and 1 x plastic storage case.

How long can I store my colostrum for?

Refer to the ABA for storage guidelines.

Can I reuse this kit?

Absolutely! Simply clean thoroughly before and after each use. Avoid harsh chemicals and bleaches. Hand wash only. Do not store in direct sunlight.
