Breastfeeding Nipple Shields

Size: Regular

Invisible armour for your nips.

WHEN YOU'LL NEED IT

Nipple shields are usually most helpful in the early days of postpartum while your milk is establishing and both you and your baby are learning how to do this whole breastfeeding thing. Typically they are not needed long-term. Consult your lactation consultant or GP for personalised guidance.

HOW TO USE IT

Place the shield over your nipple before feeding and let your baby latch to your nipple in the shield. Use while your baby is learning to feed or whenever your nipples feel damaged or tender and need some extra protection.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT

Invisible armour line for your nipples while you and your baby are both figuring out this feeding thing. The elongated nipple shape can also assist in getting a better latch in newborns.

FAQ

How do nipple shields work?

Nipple shields are thin, flexible silicone covers worn over the nipple and areola during breastfeeding. They create a smooth surface that can help a baby latch more easily, especially if there are challenges like flat or inverted nipples, soreness, or early latch difficulties. They can also provide temporary protection while nipples heal, while still allowing milk transfer during feeds.

What is latch?

“Latch” refers to how your baby attaches to the breast to feed. A good latch means your baby takes a large mouthful of breast tissue (not just the nipple), allowing efficient milk transfer and reducing discomfort. A shallow latch can cause nipple pain and make feeding less effective, which is why positioning and support are often important in the early days of breastfeeding.

How do I find my right size?

Nipple shield size is based on the diameter of your nipple (not your areola). To find the right fit, measure your nipple and choose a shield that allows a small amount of space around it without excess rubbing or tightness. If you're between sizes, a lactation consultant or midwife can help you fine-tune the fit, as the correct size is important for comfort and milk flow.

When should I start using nipple shields?

You can start using The Invisibles Nipple Shields if you are having early latch difficulties, nipple pain, or if recommended by a lactation consultant or healthcare provider. They are often used in the early postpartum period but can also be a temporary tool at any stage of breastfeeding while underlying feeding issues are being worked on.
